There has been a long time since the last war with the Amzens, and everyone is starting to hope that things will be at peace at long last. However, just as everyone in the Royal Pack are starting to relax, Malyxum vanishes.

What happened in that time when Malyxum was gone, no one knows. Not only did he not return, but he was pronounced dead. His brother, Tahire, also did not return from the trip. Mordecai, the King's Assassin, went to see what may have happened and was pronounced dead as well. The only one to return from that trip was Xyrin, and she has not said a word, grieving deeply for the Fallen King.

The whole of the Royals mourns the loss of their King, uncertain what the future may hold. The Amzen know of what happened. But so does another. Demetris Exultare has been waiting for this moment. There is only one thing that stands in his way. The Great Lord Rellik is the only wolf old enough to remember what happened then. He plans to use Xyrin and Sirius to draw him out, leaving him as a trap for the Amzen to capture. The trap also succeeds in removing Theirry from the Adviser board, a wolf who had been working close with Rellik.

That out of the way, it gives the Exultare what they want. The perfect way to get in. Demetris walks in, offers to help them settle things and immediately takes action. He buddies up to Flint, the only one left from the original three leaders, using his natural charm to get what he wants out of the male. He learns all he can about the pack, its secrets, and secures his way of being the leader.

Another way that he solidifies himself as a hero is leading an attack against the Amzens, spreading rumors around the uneasy Royals that it was Dynaria who had in fact killed her cousin. This not only drives the Amzen from their lands, to lurk in the shadows of the Dead Wood, but frees the male slaves. All seems well for the Royals now. All threats seem to have been removed.

But it does not seem all that has happened.

Rellik was freed with the others, and tried to return to the Royals. Demetris intercepted him. In a fight, he throws Rellik into a river, sending him off. When he found, it is by the Amzen.

Alaric, a Noble, has had enough. He caught the fight between Demetris and Rellik. The injustices that start as soon as there is no threat, worse than anything the Royals had seen before, he decides its time to fight back. He starts to whisper, get the idea into the heads of others that it is time to remove the King. To restore order to the lands again. A young male, Caio, is in awe of what the older male is doing. He offers to help, as Alaric plans to head to the Amzen, hoping to gain their aid. They wish to return to their land. Alaric wishes to remove Demetris from power.

The King's Army is born. Rellik takes on the role of liason between Dynaria and Alaric. The Royals start to grow restless. The Amzen prepare for battle.
